As the Chinese consume the world's top luxury goods, their aesthetic tastes are still stuck at figurative and realist art; Chinese Ink Painting is a dated game of the brush, and it has joined with reproductions of Western expressionist paintings to conquer the middle class living room. This is a cultural recession...Print art is a fashionable way of life. Just as silkscreen prints made Andy Warhol, Chinese print art, with the ancient and storied woodcut at its core, is now giving contemporary inspiration from tradition to a whole new generation of Chinese artists. Print art is a testament to the rise of taste in contemporary Chinese culture. A respect for limited editions also ensures their stable investment value...Print art is a medium for classy people to easily enjoy classy art.

With over one hundred artists from across the world, take a stroll through culture and style, join your family in making your own print, collect original print art Greeting Cards for just a few hundred Yuan. Some lucky participants will even be able to take home a free print...A Celebration of the Magnificence of Print Art- 2009 New Year's Print Art Festival!

In its 2nd year, 2009 NYPAF, organized by China Print Art Online (www.ChinaPrintArt.cn) and in collaboration with five galleries in Beijing, is an inclusive public art event promoting the awareness of printmaking; it brings joy and inspiration to art lovers, celebrating the heritage & diversity of print art.

2008 NYPAF successfully engaged over thousand visitors in making their first prints; print art forum was attended by leading art experts, dealers and artists, it triggered debate and solutions cultivating healthy art consumption against the background of over commercialization of Chinese arts.

2009 NYPAF organizes more exciting exhibitions with academic integrity. The festival was warmly supported by originations and corporation like American Print Alliance and Canson, a leading art paper brand that sponsors the event.

2009 NYPAF demonstrates the confidence of art industry confronting global economic crisis.
Chinese art development has been dependent on investors and western collectors. In the context of a difficult phase of the international art market like the present one, it has to go back to its Chinese root (local art collection and genuine art appreciation) to achieve sustainable success. While contemporary Chinese art in the general public's eyes are sometimes considered eccentric and hard to understand, print art will be a bridge closing the gap, making art accessible aesthetically and commercially, which in turn benefits the organic growth of Chinese art.

2009 NYPAF Events:
A. Print Art Exhibitions simultaneously in festival alliance galleries. The works on display include rare prints from socialist era to contemporary, from traditional to western sensation.
B. Public printmaking: visitors can bring kids to make their first woodcut, using Canson paper.
C. Original Print New Year Cards: 8 leading printmakers each create original prints as New Year cards, allowing visitors to collect top art at RMB 500 only, an exclusive and valuable gift for New Year celebration.
D. Lucky Draw Program: 88 prints are donated by artists in a lucky draw program for enthusiastic art lovers.

Jessica Zhang, Director of China Print Art Online believes that the 2009 NYPAF will not only succeed the esthetic identity and potential of the print genre today, but also continue to play a valuable role in upholding the spirit of Chinese contemporary art as well as in creating an inclusive arena for the prosperity of art market in China.
